The Spoon-Sized Rescued Kitten Is Determined To Grow Big And Strong
Kitten Francis is three weeks old but weighs only 4 ounces (113 grams), about the size of a newborn. The shelter that took him in knew something was wrong.

They took the kitten to the NOVA Cat Clinic, where Ellen Carozza, a licensed Feline Veterinary Technician, took over fostering the kitten as he needed special care.

During the first examination, they discovered that the tuxedo boy had a heart murmur and was losing some hair. They went on to perform two more tests to confirm the kitten’s diagnosis.Ellen Carozza LVT
From the beginning, young Francis n.e.v.e.r let his size slow him down. He is a great eater and will meow continuously until Ellen picks him up and cuddles him. He is equipped with a small but powerful engine.
Francis had to be bottle-fed around the clock. When he wasn’t eating, he was snuggling with Ellen, who took him to work in time to feed him and carried him in her pocket when he required her undivided A.t.t.e.n.t.i.o.n.Ellen Carozza LVT
Ellen’s resident cat, Benny, became the kitten’s foster father. He would bathe him after eating and watch him learn to use the litter box and take his first bite of solid food.

When Francis tried wet kitten food for the first time, he ate it like a champ.

“After speaking with several specialists, he did not have hypothyroidism as additional tests confirmed, but he may have a growth hormone deficiency,” Ellen said.
“He has a lot of issues that we’re dealing with, and not just because he’s young.”Ellen Carozza LVT
At six weeks old, Francis was about the size of a 3-week-old kitten. He was very small for his age but the tuxedo boy was a warrior.
“Weekly weight was 0.755 pounds…mostly abdominal,” Ellen wrote.Ellen Carozza LVT
Francis has a big voice and tries very hard to be a big boy.
