In September, animal control found Abby wandering the streets in a sickly and malnourished state, resorting to eating garbage to survive. The senior dog, believed to be between 10 and 12 years old,
was nearly bald and required more assistance than what animal control could provide. As a result, they reached out to the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana for assistance. The rescuers from the organization noticed that Abby had the potential to become a beautiful dog once again, with the right amount of love and care.

Abby’s rescuers were taken aback by the state in which they found her. It was difficult to fathom how she had managed to survive on her own in that condition. The senior dog was experiencing various health issues, including ear and skin infections, a fractured hind leg, and several other illnesses that required immediate attention. It was evident that most of these issues had been left untreated for a considerable period. Therefore, Abby’s new companions did not waste any time in initiating her journey towards recovery.

“We had to give her daily shampoos and meds to clear her skin infections and treat her ear infections,” Sarrah Walton, who works at the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana, told The Dodo. “She received large amounts of love and care during this time.”

Abby underwent treatment after treatment and even had to have surgery, but it all paid off. She feels so much better now than she did when she first arrived — and she’s also completely unrecognizable.

Abby barely even looked like a dog when she was first found, and now, she’s a fluffy spunky pup who is absolutely loving life. Her rescuers can’t believe how far she’s come and truly couldn’t be happier for her.
“She is doing AMAZING,” Walton said. “Abby is spunky and sassy. She is the queen bee of our little dogs and lives for snuggles and love with volunteers.”

Abby has one more treatment to finish up, but after that, she’ll be all ready to find her forever family. She’s come such a long way, and all her new friends can’t wait for her to get her happy ending.
