Little Miss Lodie, một con mèo Ragdoll bluepoint

Blue Ragdoll Cats – The FAQ Section

Do you still have questions about blue Ragdoll cats? Then take a look at our list of FAQs. We hope you find the answers you need. Here are the most commonly asked questions about this particular coloration of Ragdoll cat:

Are blue Ragdoll cats actually blue?

No, they are not. The term “blue” used for this specific coloration is a technical term used by cat breeding experts. This is used to define a specific shade of grayish white, with very light inflections, which are blue in the shade.

However, this does not mean that the cat is born or will ever develop blue-colored fur. The term blue is purely technical and has nothing to do with the color blue.

Are blue Ragdoll cats born with blue-white fur?

Like all other Ragdoll cats, blue Raggies are born entirely white. This is the case for absolutely all color variations in the breed.

Then, as the kitten develops further, their fur pigmentation also kicks in, and they develop colored fur. For blue cats, the color of their fur is bluish-white in a cold tone, so the change is minimal.

But the change is much more visible for other color variations, such as seal point Ragdolls. You can read our article on Ragdoll color progression to learn more about how Ragdoll cats get their fur color.

If not, how can you recognize a blue Ragdoll?

When the kitten is very young, there is no way to know what color its fur will develop. You can analyze the colors of its parents and grandparents if this information is available, but this can only point in a particular direction.

The only way to know for sure is to wait for the kitten to develop enough for its definitive coat color to be noticeable. The blue-white shade is specific for this coloration pattern.

Will blue Ragdoll cats change color over the course of their lives?

Yes, they will, just like any other cat. When the blue Ragdolls reaches seniority, it will develop more white fur on its face and extremities.

Even though the color difference is not as easy to notice as in other colorations, it is present, and a keen eye will spot the differences. Pictures can be a handy resource to spot color changes.

How does a blue Ragdoll change color when its temperature is high?

In blue Ragdolls, this is much more difficult to notice. Ragdoll color change is interesting because they can change the color of their fur when their body temperature is modified.

When their temperature is high, their bodies’ fur becomes lighter in color. However, the difference from their typical blue-white color might be very subtle.

How does a blue Ragdoll change color when its temperature is low?

When their body temperature drops, a Ragdoll’s fur becomes darker in tone. This will be easy to spot in blue Ragdolls, as it will significantly change from the typical blue-white color of their fur. You should check the cat’s body temperature if you notice something like this.

Do blue Ragdoll cats also have blue eyes?

Yes, they do. The vast majority of blue Ragdoll cats have blue eyes. The ones that do not have blue eyes are actually the exception.

Do blue Ragdoll cats grow up to be blue?

No, they do not. While some people expect blue Ragdolls to eventually turn blue, this does not happen. Despite their name, blue Ragdolls never reach a color that compares to typical blue. It is really more of a grey color with a slight blue hue.

What do old blue Ragdoll cats look like?

Old Ragdoll cats can get white inflections in their fur. They also get more white fur on their faces than other parts of their bodies. This change is far more dramatic in Ragdoll cats of darker colors. Still, in blue Raggies, the differences are far less noticeable.

The blue-white fur on their faces eventually switches to a full-on white shade. So, as you can see, blue Ragdolls may not be blue in color, but they are exceptionally gorgeous nonetheless.
