PORTLAND, Oregon (KOIN) – Ian Ruder là một trong hàng trăm ngàn người bị mất điện khi cơn bão mùa đông đổ bộ vào cuối tuần trước. Anh ta mất điện trong 3 ngày, lấy lại và mất nó một lần nữa.
“Chúng tôi bị mất điện vào trưa thứ Bảy tuần trước và điện đã không trở lại cho đến tối thứ Ba,” Ruder nói với KOIN 6 News. “Sau đó, chúng tôi lại mất điện vào thứ Năm với cơn bão băng trong hai ngày nữa.”

Một người hàng xóm khác ở West Hills, Ron Nelson, nói với KOIN 6 News rằng cơn bão là “một trong những điều đáng tiếc của thiên nhiên”.
Thay vì rời đi, Nelson quyết định ở lại. “Chúng tôi có những đường ống có thể đóng băng và điều đó có thể gây ra nhiều thiệt hại, vì vậy chúng tôi quyết định gắn nó ra.”
Việc mất điện cũng làm mất kết nối internet của Ruder, khiến việc tìm hiểu khi nào sức mạnh của anh ta có thể được khôi phục trở nên khó khăn hơn.
He said it was difficult to get answers from PGE.
“It’s been up and down. I was pleasantly surprised at times. I was able to contact someone directly on Twitter,” Ruder said. “I got a personalized response which was much more detailed than I was getting on the internet.”
Ruder said he had a tough time getting around in his wheelchair.
“I couldn’t get outside because of the ice and couldn’t get past my front door,” Ruder said. “So for three days I basically sat in the same place in front of that fire, probably moved 10 feet in total.”

He spent most of his time in his kitchen with a glass fireplace. “We put up a wall at the door and stayed in here because this was the only place it wasn’t 40 degrees.”
Nelson agreed.
“We are fortunate we have gas fireplaces in the house that kept the great room warm enough to stay in the house,” he said.
The neighborhood came together, Ruder said, by sending emails on what was happening outside, “whether the roads were passable, getting out and organizing chainsaw crews to cut trees out of the road and create a path.”
PGE said they hope to have all the power fully restored by Monday. Crews continue to make repairs as quickly as they can.
